Girls Gone Wild
Several years ago, I purchased a large set of female mug shots from the 1940s. These are a few examples. Each image has its own brown paper envelope that gives the woman's name, race, alias, and reason for arrest which is in code. *Most likely, the majority were arrested for prostitution.
*The original owner told me that the majority of arrests were for solicitation. Most of the envelopes have the exact same codes with the exception of a few. I am assuming that the original owner knew what the codes meant although I have not been able to decipher them.

Step Two: I'll choose Irene and Elizabeth to party with, Ruth can be our back up bouncer and I want to know what Ruby's remembering during that side pose . . .
I can just hear them all saying "Let me freshen up my lipstick before you snap the photo. A girl has to look her best you know!"
Wow - I wonder what happened to them. It would make for a great book if you could track them down.
Some have a scary hard-edge look, but most don't look like criminals. I wonder about their stories before & after.

I have no idea what they were arrested for since that part is in some sort of code using various letters and numbers. I purchased these a few years ago from a gentleman who had quite a few mugshots for sale (both male and female). I don't remember his name nor can I find a receipt of the sale.

I think Irene, Elizabeth and Grace are really getting a kick out of being busted. Mary looks like she is no one to be messed with. The others look like they just don't have time for this crap. None of them look like it's their first time.....fascinating.
I can guess what happened to them. Irene worked as bouncers she used her head for that job hence the broad forehead. Elizabeth went to work in customer service where she gave them the cold shoulder she gave the camera. Grace married Tommy the dumb son of a Mafia godfather. Violet became a famous model look at her thinking how does she get for this photo shoot. Katherine became a teacher just because corporal punishment was allowed back then. Ruth became an investigator detective always playing the bad cop. Eleanor became an actress playing the victim in horror movies. Ruby made her living dubbing animation movies as a pig a posing as before pictures. Mary became bartender. Louise donated her body for science and was rejected. Vivien had a very successful act of mind reading no wonder as she was connected to the devil look on her number she got 3 sixes.
And to think, our grandma's could have known/been these people!

On one side they have their arrest date and the other set of numbers is their case ID #.
