Looking For Love in All the Wrong Places

Found this set of snapshots at an estate sale last week, circa late 1970's. They require no captions.

Many years ago we had the painting in the last photo hanging in our living room. This was in the mid 70's

Last shot...it's fake brick paneling.

Picture #3 is a Texas Chugalug. The angle's bad, but the guy is waiting, eyes closed, mouth open, for the chick to pour the beer down HIS throat....bet he STILL falls for it, too!

I challenge anyone to put pics of their family at a party in the 70's up here... There is nothing wrong with these people or the decor - it was the 70's. :) The only thing they have going against them is the cowboy hats... :)

These photos present more compelling evidence that the entire world had a very slight brown tint to it right up until 1979.

My favorite is second to last. The look on his face--like a three year old being hugged by aunt Bertha.

I hope she's not his wife.

I wonder if photos like that were originally brownish or whether they've faded to brown after years of deterioration.

The Miller Lite cans and Oilers hats were classic!

When are western shirts and tighty-whiteys gonna be cool again? Hopefully soon!

any one notice that the guy chugging a beer (fourth pic down) is wearing a Fred Perry polo?

i guess he didn't realise the connection to london skin heads when he bought it (especially given that these pics look like the were taken late 70s/early 80s when mod culture was huge again in the UK).

ace!

They already are.

Yeah, the best photo is definitely the second-to-last with the cowboy experiencing existential angst.

Thanks to Boing Boing for including this post on their site! BTW, they used the term redneck, not me, so take it up with them if it bothers you. I appreciate my readers, but I will not tolerate spam, or inappropriate comments. Come on folks, these are meant to be funny. A beer pyramid and cowboys stuffing their underwear with dollar bills are not everyday snapshots, and if they are for you, what the heck are you doing wasting time reading my little blog when you live such an exciting life? As for the time period, recognizing an item here and there is cool if it brings back memories for you, but if you want to break down every single item, one by one, and tell me what year they were produced (you know who you are!), then you have WAY too much time on your hands! That being said, thanks to everyone else who has taken the time to check out my blog. I appreciate it!

I have pictures from this era, and besides having the same haircuts they all have the same color cast to them.

I'm glad I'm not these people, and I'm glad I don't know anyone with a tweety bird sweatshirt.

Thank God I was born in the 80s. Seriously, what do you even call the shag carpet. green fridge, brown everything else style? It wasn't modern... it was.. bowling alley chic?

Ahh, who cares what you guys think? These folk had a good time. Got drunk, acted silly, had fun. What the hell is wrong with that? Although I must admit the decor ... well, I didn't like it then, and don't now.

As for the beer pyramid: I once knew some fellows in a fraternity in New Orleans who were determined to fill a very large room in their frat house with empty Jax beer cans. Last I saw, before Hurricane Betsy came along, they had filled about a third of the room.

But they had harmless fun, just like the folk in these photos. So what the hell are YOU doing tonight? Sittin' in the corner and bitching?

They look happy in the photos.. Something so weird to stare at some anonymous pics of 30+ years ago though.

The cash-in-the-underwear is a little unusual--obviously someone at the party has been to a strip club--but the rest is typical 70s party-hearty stuff. That beer can pyramid is not particularly large; anyone remember the scene from Sixteen Candles?

Classix!! How does a Tweety-wearing fluff-do coed in #1 end up in the same picture with the beer-bellied knuckledragger?

It must be LOVE!!

Is it just me or do these pics fit perfectly w/ the scene in The Blues Brothers where they are playing in the bar? About half way down is where they break into Stand by Your Man.

Ah, young Bruce...unfortunately it WAS modern. It was the height of fashion. Amazing, isn't it? Just goes to show you how eeevviilll the marketing wizards are. I bet they're still laughing!!

Swapatorium - your choice of order for these photos was pure genius. I love the two guys left alone in the last frame. Hilarious.

(I don't know the people in these photos, but I knew plenty of people with the same houses and clothes and hairstyles.)

The guy chugging the beer is not wearing a Fred Perry polo...it's a "Hang Ten" logo (you know with the bare foot prints).

I'm ashamed I know this...
