Sweat Setter

From the Neiman Marcus 1982 catalog:
"The LaserTour by Perceptronics utilizes the modern magic of microelectronics to create a totally new concept of surrogate travel as you exercise. The LaserTour is a unique microcomputer system that amalgamates a superior, industrial quality LaserDisc player with a video disc, a 45" rear screen video projector, and the Lifecycle electronic bicycle/aerobic trainer.

As you pedal off on the bicycle, you're plunged into a variety of locations and situations - projected from the laser video disc onto the large screen, eye level projector. The faster you pedal, the faster you whirl through the landscape. Glide down the beach bikeways, cruise through elegant Beverly Hills, range the Southern California canyons and hills (you'll feel the ups and downs). Or Mitty-like, choose the multi segment fantasy tour for some surprises.

LaserTour System with Lifecycle, rear screen projector, LaserDisc Player and an especially produced video disc with approximately two hours of tours, $20,000."

The wonders of "microelectronics" to "amalgamate" with the "aerobics trainer!"

I wonder if NM actually sold any of these?

$20,000 for that? LOL... You might want to reconsider since a fully working Dragons Liar is around $2,000 and collectors actually want and will pay that.

This reminds me of the simulators we used in driver's ed in 1984, except I think they used film instead of a laser disc, and instead of a bicycle, they had the front seat, steering wheel, and pedals of a '75 LTD.

Looks like you could build some serious biceps just lifting the remote that's sitting atop the disc player!

The more things change the more they stay the same. That's the phrase that pops into my mind reading this item, because there's a company called Connect 18 that's taking on this same idea today.

I'd rather play Prop Cycle! This one is a flying bicycle and even has a fan to simulate flying through the air. I used to love playing this game.

They used one of these things - once - on an Episode of "Silver Spoons".

I actually rode one of those things. It was an exhibit at COSI (the science museum in Columbus, OH). That would have been mid to late 80's. We thought it was AWESOME.

I remember the main character using this on the show "Silver Spoons"!

When they switched to the roller-coaster shot, the audience laughed because they thought it was supposed to be a joke. I guess not.

Ah-ha! I knew this existed. Now, if I could only show this blog entry to the guy i worked with at a thrift store 13 years ago, I'll win that stupid argument.

I'm totally looking for this on a thrift store creepy crawl. $20K you say? I'll bet there's a Goodwill somewhere that has this priced at a more reasonable $99.

Add a couple of joy sticks to this thing and you have the same thing they train our military with!
