Finished Object: 1975 Cabled Camisole

The cabled camisole is finally done, but I'm not so sure it's a keeper.

Cabled Cami

I love the color but the top itself is pretty, well, shapeless. And not in a cool Seventies bohemian kinda way, but more in a frumpy gunny sack kinda way. So, I probably won't be wearing it any time soon.

Modifications: I knit the shirt in the round instead of knitting the front and back separately, and I replaced the chunky cabled shoulder straps with thinner I-chord straps. It looks cute on the floor, but not on me.

I also have a new work in progress. Inspired in part by this Swapatorium post about a collage of miscellaneous carpet pieces, I have decided to start my own Vintage Vertical Stripe crochet blanket. These afghans, popular in the 1970s, are the crochet equivalent of the patchwork quilt, made with leftover scraps in a medley of Technicolors.

Striped blanket

My blanket is only three stripes long so far, and will probably take several months to complete, but I'm going to crochet it as a way to use up all those scraps of yarn after bigger projects are complete. Waste not, want not!

I can see why you might not want to wear your creation; the concept of short or no sleeve sweaters (if I'm cold enough for a sweater, don't I need sleeves?) always has puzzled me, but it IS really cute. You're very talented!

Oh, come now, I'm sure you'd make a an old gunny sack with armholes look like a Balenciaga - let's see that camisole in action. ;-)

I really hate it when something I labor over just doesn't work. I have figured that my ratio for failure is about 1 in 3, fairly high - thankfully the creative impulse is very strong. Better luck with your next project! (your camisole does look really cute on the rug!)

I like the camisole! The lady in the photo wore a belt with it... did you try that?

Sweaters always make one look bulkier, but, I think this looks cute and would be great with a blue belt or something similar.

I kinda like it. I'm sure it will look better on. Try it on, take a pic, send it out and let us help you decide. I think you will be surprised. Respectfully, Skip.
